Way Too Little Way Too Late

In May 25 with the genocide only twenty months old

Starmer decided it was time that Israel had to be told

The statement he released along with Canada and France

Told Netanyahu to let in humanitarian assistance

And to relieve the suffering of the civilian population

he must also stop his renewed military operation

And they added just to give their words a wee bit of traction

That if he didn’t comply they’d follow up with concrete action

 

They knew their support for genocide was not a good look

So the three declared they’d taken all they could brook

They seemed to bear no shame at all the time that this took

Their coded message was a recipe they had to carefully cook

But we can read between the lines of their PR playbook

This was just an exercise in getting themselves off the hook

 

Lammy took his cue from what he had heard from his boss

His chance to show that about Gaza he really does give toss

His support for Israel had ignited flames that he needed to douse

So he reached for his dictionary and then he went to the house

And to emphasise the magnitude of the toss that he gives

He took aim at Israel with a whole arsenal of adjectives

 

It’s extremism it’s dangerous it’s abominable

It’s repellent it’s monstrous it’s intolerable

We condemn it in the strongest possible terms

It’s counter-productive and it’s morally unjustifiable

It’s disproportionate it’s egregious it’s indefensible

It must stop but we’ll keep selling Israel arms

 

They want us to believe that of history they sit on the right side

But they cannot bring themselves to even use the word genocide

Although Lammy announced the suspension of trade negotiations

‘Lord’ Austin was in Israel just days later to bolster trade relations

Despite the concern they expressed for Gazans human rights

The RAF continued giving Israel intel from its reconnaissance flights

 

Israel’s war crimes warrant serious sanctions and then some

But Starmer won’t even step up to do the very minimum

Their ambassador should be sent back to the genocidal state

And he should break off diplomatic relations without any debate

Starmer may be our PM but he serves Israel and the USA

We’ll see no concrete steps from this man with feet of clay

His way too little too late words are not fooling anyone

The knots lashing him to the mast of genocide can’t be undone
